Take 5 for Friday 9-27-19: A blog highlighting Permaculture Projects, People, Podcasts, Products and More!
First of all our apologies for our lack of Take 5’s we have soo much on our plate sometimes the first thing that goes out the door or off our Todo list is the blog. We will do better to try to commit to to 4 Take 5’s a month and at least one Permaculture or Entrepreneurial type post each month for all y’all Boomsteaders out there!
(1) Permaculture Projects Happening @TheBoomstead and The D.U.B. (The Denver. Urban. Boomstead.) Our bees were in a nectar dearth and didn’t produce any extra honey this year. They have some decent pollen stores and I keep feeding them to help them make their winter rations. In the fall you feed bees a 2 to1 ration of sugar to water because the syrup is closer to honey consistency. We just did a sauna the other day @theboomstead after we watered all the perennial bushes and trees. Since we are not out there as much the entire backyard is going to be taken over by Cat Nip. It smells so good and the carpenter bees love it. Talking about a pollinators paradise in the prairie. All the trees seem to be surviving and doing pretty good with our little mulch beds and these “tree tube coverings” we added around the base. The tubes seem to protect the baby trees from wildlife and also creates microclimate around the small branches and leaves to thrive on.
(2)My New Co Working Space @charleyco! Do you work form home or are you an entrepreneur? Than I highly suggest you join a co-working space and if you are a female baller like myself join Women’s Co-working space the empowers your efforts as a lady boss like this dope place I found in the rhino district of Dowtown Denver. Not only is this places feng shui off the map but you will find a smiling face around every corner.
Bryn Carter is the founder and a badass boss who is trying to bring together denver entrepreneurs in an eclectic work environment but she aims “To build a space where the amazing women of Denver could come to grow alongside one another in both their personal and professional lives. A space where women could naturally embrace the roles of both student and teacher. A work environment where competition was left at the door and vulnerability could be worn freely.” I just went to my first networking event this past Sunday 9/23 and I was one of the guest speakers on a health panel called “Show Burnout Who’s Boss” I gave a talk on Adrenal Fatigue and Microgreens (go check out our blog post I did to help me prepare) and Go meet the badass women from the Panel with this link @charlecowork.
The Co-Founder Jordan Schenck of the Brand New Herbal Tonic Drink called Sunwink (@drinksunwink) hosted the event and She is a badass who is going to empower women globally with her brand and mission: She believes that everyone has a right to consume plants everyday. Sunwink was founded in 2018 with the vision to completely reimagine herbal wellness for a modern world. Our mission is to make plants your daily answer to caring for yourself whether its health, mood or lifestyle. PLUS EACH SUNWINK HERBAL TONIC IS INSPIRED BY A REAL WOMAN AND THE HERBS SHE USES. THEY GIVE 1% OF NET SALES TO ORGANIZATIONS OF THE WOMEN’S CHOOSING.
The 3 other panelists blew up the talk, Erin Hatler, a Clinical Herbalist who brought attention to the power of working with our Moon phases when it comes to planning our schedule as hardworking business women. I highly suggest you follow her on the gram and connect with her if you want to maximize your life by organizing and learning how to make the perfect schedule around your menstrual cycle.
An Ayurveda Practitioner, Alexas Berman, @alexas_ayurveda woke up the ladies dropping ancient nutritional health bombs, letting everyone know you can take back your adrenal health with abhyanga oil massage before showering a few times a month and plus touching on tips about how to honor your cycle using Ayurvedic medicine with different teas and herbs.
The last panelist to speak before me was Rachel Roller, @rollingwiththehomies, she is a Connection & Wellness business Coach, another Badass Female Entrepreneur and she broke down the signs of adrenal fatigue and health tips needed to take your health and energy back so you can be the ultimate lady boss you can be!!
(3) Books You Need to Read or Listen to About Finances ASAP! Both these books have invaluable information that will change the way you look, feel and handle your money. Whether you have a lot of money or you are swimming in debt these two books are helping us look at our finances and own our decisions when it comes to how we want to live, earn and spend our hard earned cash!
- I Will Teach You How To Be Rich 2nd Edition by Ramit Sethi
- You Are a Badass at Making Money: Master the Mindset of Health by Jen Sincero
(4) A Podcast that will Power up your Entrepreneur Potential:
If you are an entrepreneur and haven’t listened to Entrepreneurs On Fire you need to stop reading this blog and go straight to this podcast and listen to one that catches your interest. There is so much valuable information tied up in each episode its hard to pick just one. I recommend listening to them on x2 the speed because you can speed through commercials and you get the gist of the conversation most of the time especially if you are doing housework or other things around your house. You can always rewind if he drops A Knowledge bomb too quickly or slow it down if the conversation heats up with information you can’t miss.
(5) Don’t be afraid teach your self how to preserve food via canning. I recommend the lowers home improvement video. The Lowe’s lady breakdown how to can jam in such an easy way that you only have to watch it a couple times to get eveything you need to know so you can safely can virtually anything you grow yourself or buy at the farmers market that is going to go bad if you don’t preserve it!
Keep booming life everyday!
