(1) TheBoomstead and The D.U.B. – We teach people how to homestead from our tiny house on 35 acres aka the boomstead and/or out of our new Denver House aka The D.U.B. (The Denver Urban Boomstead)
We have been so busy since we moved off the boomstead and in The D.U.B. on 4/28. When any of our friends and family find out we have purchased a denver home the first question they ask is what will happen to the boomstead? What will happen to the tiny house? Don’t worry it is still there. The great thing about owning a house off grid is you can un plug and plug back in whenever you want. That little cute baby of ours waits for us boomsteaders. We still need to wrap up the pond garden projects but 16 tons of gravel for the pathway is $500 and we have a lot of expenses right now. As far as the cooks they made the big move last Monday 5/6/19 and they laid eggs their first day in denver even having traveled 65 mph on 1-25. They are dong good and we are slowing finishing all their coop accommodations. Priority #1 for them is dust bath space. They found their own spot near the garage but they will need access in their run space too.
Bees arrived our first official weekend at The D.U.B. 5/4 – we had basically moved in the entire house the week before and have been getting ready to move over the micro farm from Lone Tree to Denver that I am glad this was my second year in bee keeping. We used last year’s hive which had drawn out comb, honey stores and pollen stores to help boost their spring building. I almost killed my queen when I took her cage out. I though a bunch of bees were just on the cage but she was actually stuck inside. 15 minutes later I noticed at least 30 bees on the cage so I did a second look and the cork was still inside which made It impossible for her to escape (when I put the marshmallow cork in , it had fallen inside and she was trapped in once they ate their way to her. Luckily I removed the cork and she crawled her way straight into her new home to start laying lots of eggs for 2019.
Transition is hard but it can be exciting if you go with the flow and allow your intuition to take hold. Lately I went from lots of anxious feelings to being very excited about our day to day and reaching our overall goals with teaching people how to homestead on a bunch of land or in their very own backyard.
