An full overflow pond and our pond garden waits for more rain. We have lots of bee friendly and pollinator friendly perennials in our pond garden. Today we saw milkweed plants coming back in our backyard too!!

(1)Permaculture Boomstead Projects

Operation Keep Chickens Alive through winter has been successful even with us not really living at boomstead. The chickens all have their feathers back and we have 3 dozen eggs to eat a week right now between 10 chickens which isn’t too bad for off grid prairie birds dealing with frozen waterers and absentee farmers.

Happy chooks , scratching away in a the greenhouse. We our going to plant out a bunch of perennial plants in this greenhouse this year and our egg layers our moving to Denver. We have plans for 30+ broiler chickens on the boomstead this year.

We had our 9th and 10th sauna day and it only gets more enjoyable and also just as difficult every 30 minutes we try to bear the 30 minutes of 220 F degrees. I keep dong a fly bye on my bees but still no movement, this weekend is suppose to be awesome and I am hoping to see their cleansing flight “first flight of spring”!

We had a cob oven pizza party last weekend and It keeps getting better each time. Between the sourdough pizza dough, our fresh microgreens from @milehighmicrogreens.info and _________(add any fucking pizza topping you want) this makes pizza day on the boomstead EPIC every time. My favorite pizza right now is Grass Fed butter, lightly cheesed with parmesan and mozzarella and then add Arugula Mile High Micro Greens when it comes hot out the oven ready to eat!!

(2) Boom Perma Garden Spring Projects:

We built, started and have been helping maintain my parents Parker Landing Child Development Center’s Preschool Garden since 2016 . So this will be year 4 in the garden we have a strawberry bed that needs help, a raspberry bed that was very successful last year and this will be our first year where we cut the raspberry canes back and we will wait to see if they come back in full force. The herb bed is fun to smell and its full of perennials to make it a maintenance free garden bed easy for a preschool to maintain. It is full of herbs like chives, we planted around the edges, sprawling chocolate mints, lemon balm and lavenders and every year a random kale pops up and if we have room in this bed we also a new herb in to the mix.  We have an open bed for carrots, cherry tomatoes that also has a couple Perennial echinacea plant (Purple cone flowers) that comes back every year. We have a request for carrots, pumpkins, greens beans, peas and more!!!

Boom Bees in Denver – excited to be building hives this weekend at our friends house (1 hive for them and 1 hive for us) and this year we are going to be using foundation less frames which is suppose to more natural for the bees. I am excited to see the difference between these Denver hives and our boomstead hives. Tune in for our beekeeping adventures @traconanda @theboomstead @themommykeys
